Evaluating Evacuation Safety in nursing hospital: A Compliance Study Based on Chinese Standards

Abstract

This study establishes four simulation scenarios to analyze the Required Safe Egress Time for evacuation

in nursing hospital buildings based on Chinese standards. Scenario 1 serves as the baseline; Scenario 2 adds

the first set of external ramps at both ends of the corridor on the top floor (5th floor); Scenario 3

incorporates external ramps on both the 4th and 5th floors; and Scenario 4 extends this further by adding

external ramps on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors. Evacuation simulations were conducted using Pathfinder

software, and the results unequivocally demonstrate that total evacuation time consistently decreases as the

number of external ramp access points increases. These findings strongly suggest that integrating external

evacuation routes alongside existing internal staircases represents a highly effective design strategy for

improving evacuation safety, particularly in facilities catering to individuals with limited mobility.
